Small stoneware midcentury bowl by Gunnar Nylund for Rörstrand. Glazed in a matte brown feldspar glaze giving this piece a variation of brown tones. A beautifully balanced form in a classic Nylund design.
Incised R for Rörstrand with three crowns and Sweden. Also marked with artist initials GN and model number US.

ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Gunnar Nylund (1914-1997) was a Danish-Swedish ceramic designer and potter and was best known as the artistic director at Rörstrand. In the 1920’s he studied architecture at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. He gave up his studies and went on to work at Danish porcelain factory Bing & Grøndahl. In 1930 Nylund and Danish potter Nathalie Krebs launched SAXBO stoneware to great acclaim, the same year Nylund was recruited to Rörstrand. Gunnar Nylund is one of the most celebrated ceramic artists of his time and is represented in museums and collections around the world.
